The Capital City of Port Blair

The Capital City of Port Blair

The turquoise blue waters with golden sandy beaches, scenic landscapes will mesmerize you. It altogether a wonderful experience to see this astonishing beautiful part of India which we have only seen in movies and travel shows.

The capital city of Port Blair takes you through the pre independence era of the history, infamous for the Cellular Jail where political prisoners were held and tortured. The pre independence settlement of the British officers at Ross islands is a great attraction as well.
The closest beach in Port Blair is Carbyn’s cove approx 10 kms from city with coconut palms swinging with a lot of water sport activities which is favored activity with the tourists.

Best time :

The end September to the end May is a good time to pack your bags and head to Andamans. Personally of the opinion that mid January to February end are the best months to visit Andamans. The rains are good from June to August and the recent trend shows a lot of off season tourist arrivals.

There are daily flights of all major airlines, from all the major cities in Indian with even non-stop direct flights from Mumbai, Bangalore & Delhi.

What to carry :

1. Cotton clothes for the summer, winters are
2. Dark sunglasses, umbrella, and trekking shoes if you plan to explore
3. Lots of sunscreen lotion
4. Basic medicines, anti-allergic medications,
5. Beach wear and snorkeling kits are(Snorkeling kits are available on rent also)

Food :

There are not too many options as compared to other Indian tourist location, but good food with Indian & international cuisine is served at most of the hotels and resorts. Taj Vivanta has opened up a new property at Havelock island and has of one of the finest restaurants in the archipelago.

Andaman can be explored in three different ways :

  • Local stay at Port Blair exploring beautiful Chidyatpau beach, sandy Wandoor Beach, Jolly Buoy Island, snorkelling at North Bay, Ross Island, Chatham Saw mill, Sagarika Museum, Anthropological Museum etc.

  • Unexplored beaches, Turquoise blue waters and secluded beaches at Havelock & Neil islands with scuba diving sessions, snorkelling at Elephant beach, visiting one of Asia best Radhanagar Beach.

  • Exploring Middle and North Andamans by visiting Baratang lime stone caves, Lalaji bay beach at Long Island, Turtle Nesting at Diglipur, Ross & Smith Islands to name a few.
